Who are we?

Northern Health is a dynamic health service, providing vital public healthcare to residents of Melbourne’s northern suburbs and the surrounding regional communities. Our five campuses offer services to a vastly diverse community at all stages of life. Each year our organization grows and develops, adapts to meet the ever changing needs of the community we serve.

Northern Health is one of the busiest health services in Victoria. On a weekly basis 972 patients are treated at a Northern Health campus, 41 babies are born at The Northern Hospital and 40 children receive treatment in our paediatric unit.

Our Hospital in the Home service visit 23 patients in their home while more than 1750 patients are referred to a Northern Health service by their GP. 305 patients came to our Emergency Department at The Northern Hospital by Ambulance and a total of 1178 patients are treated in our Emergency Department. We perform almost 100 emergency operations and more than 200 elective procedures.

Across Northern Health we treat people born in more than 130 different countries and our in-house interpreting services provide assistance to a range of patients for whom English is not their first language.

Northern Health is a highly regarded research and teaching facility with a strong commitment to training and providing continuing educational opportunities to all clinical staff, throughout all stages of their career.

The Northern Health Academic and Research Precinct, collaboration between Northern Health, Melbourne University, La Trobe University and the State and Federal Governments is a state of the art medical research and training facility to educate Victoria’s future Medical, Nursing and Allied Health professionals.
