EACH Australia is excited to announce an upcoming course, “How to Teach: Experiential Communication Skills Teaching,” designed for educators in health professions who want to deepen their skills in facilitating communication training.
This 2.5-day course is highly interactive, participant-centred, and focuses on teaching strategies for communication skills facilitation.
It will be led by communication specialist, Professor Marcy Rosenbaum (Profile Below) and hosted by Associate Professor Conor Gilligan.
Dates: Mid – March 2025 (See below)
Venue: Bond University, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia
Workshop Overview: The course aims to equip participants with key strategies to enhance communication skills training.
Over the course, participants will gain practical skills, enabling them to:
- Apply educational theory to design effective communication skills training;
- Describe essential components of experiential communication skills sessions;
- Use role play, video, small groups, and simulated patients to improve learner engagement;
- Structure feedback effectively to enhance learning outcomes;
- Manage large and small group dynamics in communication sessions.

Indicative Cost:
- Non-Members: $1,700
- Members: $1,560

This course will be tailored to fit the specific teaching practices of participants, acknowledging the varying resources available in terms of faculty, simulated patients, and technology across institutions.
Invited Guest Speaker Profile
Marcy Rosenbaum is Professor of Family and Community Medicine and Faculty Development Consultant for the Office of Consultation and Research in Medical Education at the University of Iowa. She has been actively involved in teaching, curriculum development and conducting research on clinician-patient communication for the more than 30 years. She oversees communication skills training for students, residents and practicing health care providers at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She also has spent her career conducting research and directing programs focused on enhancing healthcare faculty teaching skills in classroom and clinical settings. She has helped facilitate train the trainers seminars throughout the world. She helped found tEACH, the teaching committee of EACH and is a former EACH President and Executive Committee member.
